AL GALLODORO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Clarice Oscher of Gemini Youth Orchestras Receives Award Named After Legendary Instrumentalist
(Port Jefferson, NY) -- The Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHoF) is proud to announce that Clarice Oscher is the recipient of the second annual Al Gallodoro/LIMHoF Memorial Scholarship Award. The presentation will be made at the Gemini Youth Orchestras concert on Saturday, December 10 at Symphony Space in Manhattan by Kevin Wood of the Al Gallodoro Music Memorial Fund and Jeffrey James of the Board of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
Clarice Oscher is first clarinet of the Gemini Youth Symphony. She is a senior at Islip High School and studies with Valerie Jones in Sayville.
In honor of Al Gallodoro's rich musical life and the distinction of having been one of the world's longest continually active performing musicians, this memorial scholarship has been established by his grandson Kevin Wood in cooperation with LIMHoF. Founded in 1969 as Training Orchestra, Inc., Gemini Youth Orchestras consists of a fully instrumented symphony orchestra, two string orchestras, a wind ensemble and a jazz ensemble. Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHoF) is a 501(c)(3) museum organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization defines Long Island geographically as Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties. The Hall of Fame is creating a museum home in Port Jefferson where the story of the Island’s musical heritage will be told and where resources for musicians of the future will be available.
