Pat Benatar

Rock | 2008

A rule-breaker, a trail-blazer, and a four-time Grammy winner, Pat Benatar is a classically trained mezzo-soprano. During the 1980s, she had two multiplatinum albums, five platinum albums, three gold albums and 19 Top 40 singles, including the Top 10 hits “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “Love Is a Battlefield, “We Belong,” and “Invincible.” Born Patricia Andrzejewski in Brooklyn and raised in Lindenhurst, Benatar started singing in elementary school and never stopped. In 1973, she quit her job as a bank teller to pursue a singing career fulltime and was later discovered at an amateur-night contest in the New York City comedy club Catch a Rising Star. The First Lady of Rock, along with her husband and longtime collaborator Neil Gerardo, remains a rock ’n roll powerhouse, selling out concerts over three decades in music.
