Steve Thompson

Producer | 2014

Brooklyn-born Steve Thompson has a body of work that is innovative and timeless. His start as a top DJ spinning in world-renowned New York City nightclubs always had Thompson looking for the next big sound. His work caught the ear of music mogul Clive Davis, who mentored him and teamed him with artists such as Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Exposé. He evolved into a re-mixer and producer of some of dance music’s greatest hits, including Aretha Franklin’s “Who’s Zooming Who,” Madonna’s “Open Your Heart,” and Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” all certified multiplatinum. A musical chameleon, Thompson has worked in R&B (Earth, Wind & Fire), Americana, Electronic Dance Music (Deadmau5, Metric, Temper Trap, Passion Pit, Paul van Dyk), Trap, Dub Step, Pop, Hip-Hop (Wu-Tang, Public Enemy), Reggae (Steel Pulse, Ziggy Marley, Snow) and, of course, rock (Korn, Metallica, Soundgarden, The Rolling Stones, John Lennon). Thompson produced three multiplatinum records for Tesla and mixed Guns N’ Roses’ epic debut release, Appetite of Destruction, which sold 30-plus million records. He has compiled credits as producer, arranger, and mixer on six Grammy winners, dozens of Grammy nominations, more than 150 gold and platinum albums and singles, two Diamond Awards, and countless No. 1 hits.
