Long Island Music Hall of Fame Announces Addition of Johnny Farina as Presenter at October 15 Induction Gala

The Long Island Music Hall of Fame has announced the addition of Johnny Farina, guitarist and half of Santo & Johnny, to its lineup of presenters for their Sunday, October 15, 2006 First Annual Induction Gala at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, 71 East Main Street in Patchogue.

Johnny Farina and his brother Santo were born in Brooklyn, where they began playing at church dances, wedding and clubs. The Farina Brothers began to gather fans from Brooklyn to Long Island, which led to their being signed by Canadian-American Records. Their first release in 1959 was "Sleep Walk," composed by the brothers. "Sleep Walk" was the last #1 instrumental of the 50's and earned them a Gold Record. With their unmistakable sound, they appeared on all the top music shows, "The Alan Freed Show", "Dick Clarks' American Bandstand", "The Perry Como Show" and many others. Their fame spread to other countries and they were booked on tours of Australia, Mexico and Europe. They were signed to an Italian record label and had a string of Instrumental hits in Europe with "Sleep Walk", followed by hit singles; Love Story, Maria Elena, Ebb Tide, Love is Blue, Enchanted Sea. Santo has retired from active performing, while Johnny has kept a busy performing and recording schedule as a solo artist all over the country. The organization, which defines Long Island geographically rather than politically, as Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties, was created as a place to inspire in each person the desire to explore and celebrate music in all its forms and to be a place where the music community will find the support, resources and leadership necessary to aid them in that exploration. The Long Island Music Hall of Fame sponsors the Long Island Sound Award, traveling educational exhibits and is working to create a permanent home for the story of the Island's musical heritage.
