Long Island Music Hall of Fame to Present Long Island Sound Award to Legendary Boogie Band Foghat
Long Island, NY - The Long Island Music Hall of Fame has announced that it will present a Long Island Sound Award (LISA) to boogie-rock Foghat in recognition of their outstanding contribution to Long Island's musical heritage. They will receive this award at their concert at the Great South Bay Music Festival on Sunday, July 15, 2007.
Foghat, comprised of members of Savoy Brown and other denizens of the close-knit London blues scene of the late 1960s, is widely regarded as one of the most important bands which bridged the generations of boogie-blues in America today. After their debut album - which was produced by idiosyncratic genius Dave Edmunds - the band relocated to Long Island in order to be in the midst of the American roots music scene. These expatriates discovered the thriving music scene in the Stony Brook area, and set up shop quickly in Port Jefferson Village, turning a 3-story Queen Anne Victorian house on Main Street into "Boogie Hotel." The house served as home base and recording studio for Foghat when they were on respite from their grueling touring schedule. It was there they recorded their first album to go platinum. Fool for the City, with Slow Ride and the title track became hit singles, and to this day Slow Ride is still used as the soundtrack for hot car commercials.
Lead singer Lonesome Dave Peverett passed away in 2000. The surviving members of Foghat have arranged for Dave's son to be present for the award ceremony. Their website is www.foghat.com.
The Long Island Sound Award gives the Long Island Music hall of Fame the opportunity to recognize those individuals or institutions which made a significant contribution to Long Island's musical landscape, and to give Long Islanders the opportunity to celebrate with us. Previous Long Island Sound Award recipients have included Lindenhurst's Pat Benatar, Brooklyn's own Arlo Guthrie and a posthumous award presented to Harry Chapin's widow, Sandy.
The Long Island Music Hall of Fame is a not-for-profit corporation chartered under the New York State Board of Regents, and is a federal 501(c)(3) dedicated to the idea that Long Island's musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization, which defines Long Island by its geographic boundaries, which includes Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties, was created as a place to inspire in each person the desire to explore and celebrate music in all its forms and to be a place where the music community will find the support, resources and leadership necessary to aid them in that exploration. The Long Island Music Hall of Fame sponsors the Long Island Sound Award, traveling educational exhibits and is working to create a permanent home for the story of Long Island's musical heritage.
