John Shea has been the vice president and general manager of Cox Media Group’s Long Island cluster, including WBLI-FM and WHFM-FM, since May 2006. Prior to that, Shea worked at Barnstable Broadcasting for 16 years, serving as general manager of the company’s Greenville, South Carolina, radio station cluster; general manager of the Akron, Ohio, property, and general sales manager of the Albany, New York, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, facilities. Shea began his broadcasting career in Albany as an account executive for Great Scott Broadcasting at WPYX/WTRY, followed by five years as an account executive for TV10/WTEN. He graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1980 and served for 16 years in the U.S. Army and National Guard as an aviation officer/helicopter pilot. He currently serves on the board for Telecare and The Herbert School of Communication (Hofstra University) Advisory Council. Past board positions include Urban League, Wildwood Charities, The Red Cross, and OBC. Shea and his wife, Chrissy, have three boys and reside in St. James, New York.
