The veritable Long Island musician’s bible in the 1970s and 1980s, Good Times Magazine is a music and entertainment newspaper that was founded in 1969 by Richard Branciforte, making it America’s oldest regional entertainment newspaper. Based in Carle Place, New York, Good Times has primarily focused on the Long Island scene during its tenure but has also published interviews and reviews of influential artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Duane Allman. Over the years, many well-known music writers have contributed to its pages, including MTV’s Kurt Loder, Rolling Stone’s David Fricke and Entertainment Weekly’s Leonard Maltin. Today, popular columns include The Sports Beat with Lloyd Carroll, The Dungeon (Heavy Metal) with Dave Wolff, and Rhythm Tracking with Jimi LaLumia.
